Often on ESPN, there are stories that transcend sports ... this article summarizes the pain of 2 coaches (one white and one black) who learned that the great-grandfather of the white coach had lynched and murdered the great-grandfather of the black coach.
The story is heart-wrenching in several aspects, especially in the small Southern town with an infamous history. What's striking from a Christian perspective is the difficulty that we have in the Lord's commandment to forgive ... in the eyes of Christ, the difficulty to forgive is as damaging as the tragedy of murder.
The Season of Lent began in the Indian Orthodox Church this past week with the Shub-khono service, which is marked with prayer and request for forgiveness. May we remember all those who struggle, and ask for strength to those who need to do the right thing.
